Short Answer: The 80-3-48 Rule

80

Max calls/day/number

3

Minimum numbers in rotation

48h

Rest/week/number

The 6 Golden Rules of Prevention

01

Controlled Volume

Never exceed 80 calls/day/number in standard B2B. Divide by 2 for sensitive sectors.

02

Active Rotation

Minimum 3 numbers in rotation. Switch every 2-4 hours depending on your volume.

03

Timing Respected

Call between 9am-12pm and 2pm-6pm on weekdays (in recipient's timezone). TCPA restricts calls to 8am-9pm local time. Never on Sunday, never during meals.

04

Pickup Priority

Aim for a pickup rate > 25%. Below 15%, you are in the danger zone.

05

Preventive Rest

Let a number rest 48h/week minimum. That's the price of longevity.

06

Continuous Monitoring

Check your numbers at least once/week. A problem detected early = a number saved.

Recommended vs Prohibited Hours

Green Zones

  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Optimal morning, local time)
  • 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM (Optimal afternoon, local time)
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

TCPA Legal window: 8am-9pm recipient's local time

Red Zones

  • Before 8:00 AM or After 9:00 PM (TCPA violation)
  • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (Lunch break)
  • Federal holidays, Sunday

Always respect recipient's timezone

Fatal Mistakes to Avoid

Calling DNC-registered numbers

TCPA violations can cost $500-$1,500 per call. Scrub against the National DNC Registry.

Calling back the same number 5x

Harassment behavior detected by algorithms.

Ignoring "No thanks"

Every unhappy prospect = a potential reporter.

Burst calls (200 in 10 min)

Robocall pattern detected, immediate carrier block. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile actively filter these.

One single number for everything

When it burns, you lose 100% of your capacity.

Never checking your numbers

You're calling into the void without knowing it.

Prevention Questions

How many max calls per day per number?
Normal sector (B2B, IT): 80-100 calls/day. Sensitive sector (insurance, real estate): 50-70 calls/day. Toxic sector (energy renovation, Lead Gen): 30-50 calls/day maximum. Beyond that, the risk of being reported increases exponentially.
Is number rotation enough?
No, it's only part of the solution. Rotation dilutes volume but doesn't fix a bad script, bad timing, or a poorly qualified prospect file. You need to work on ALL levers simultaneously.
Are mobile numbers better protected than landlines?
Yes and no. Mobile numbers have a better initial pickup rate (+30% in B2C), but they are also more closely monitored by carriers and apps like Hiya, Nomorobo, and RoboKiller. A mobile number flagged for spam will burn faster than a landline because the behavior is more suspicious to STIR/SHAKEN protocols.
Should certain area codes be avoided?
Yes. Some area codes are historically associated with telemarketing or robocalls (like certain 8XX toll-free numbers). Local area codes inspire more trust - for B2B, favor your prospects' local area codes (212 for NYC, 310 for LA, etc.). STIR/SHAKEN attestation also matters more than the prefix itself.
Is the weekend riskier?
Absolutely. Saturday afternoon and Sunday calls are very poorly perceived. The reporting rate is 3x higher than on weekdays. Also avoid mealtimes (12pm-2pm, 7pm-9pm).

Prevention is better than cure.
